Hed:Strong is Universal Dance’s elite Contemporary and Creative

Dance Company for 14-21 year olds.

The company is designed to give young dancers the opportunity to train, perform and work

creatively alongside professionals, whilst learning new contemporary styles and dance techniques.

HED:Strong is ideal for young dancers wishing to pursue a career in contemporary dance.

HED:Strong was founded in 2003 by Steve Parry who saw a lack of dance at that time for 12-20 year olds. Parry decided to create a youth dance company that could offer young dancers an insight into the professional contemporary dance world. In 2005, HED:Strong was re-launched & re-vamped by Motionhouse & Protein Dance Company dancer, Stuart Waters. With the help of Amanda Banks from Panta Rei & rehearsal director Jess Lloyd, they recruited another 15 dancers in order to promote HED:Strong. Now at its new home with Universal Dance and under artisitic directorship of Jess Lloyd & Lindsay Willis, HED:Strong continues to grow. Since 2011 the company has worked with young dancers in Sussex & collaborated with a range of dance practitioners from the South East & London.

"My daughter had a wonderful evening performing in the Uckfield Carnival.

Thank you for providing such brilliant opportunities for your students"

Mother of HED:Strong Dancer

Beth's love of expressing herself through dance began early with dance and gymnastics from the age of four. By the time she attended secondary school she knew that she wanted a career in dance. Understanding dance as a form of expression through body movement, in addition to entertainment, has deepened her desire to continue her studies at University. As the oldest member of HED:Strong, Beth works as a performer, teacher and choreographer within the company and has firmly established her passion for leadership; her zest for dance has influenced many students to continue studying the subject at a higher level. Beth also enjoys the art of baton and fire baton and has competed at international competitions. Beth joined UD to help expand her knowledge and provide her with exciting experiences.

Lizzie started dancing at the age of three and has always shown a true passion for it. Currently in year 11, Lizzie chose GCSE Dance after being involved in a Year 11 group choreography when she was in year 9, which she really enjoyed. Lizzie is well used to performing and competing as she has been dancing for 12 years and recently passed her NATD Grade 3 and Junior Medal exams. Lizzie is working towards her Level 2 Dance Leadership qualification and says she loves dance more and more every day!
